Vows that Wow: Gabriella & Matthew

Every detail of Gabriella and Matthew’s Delaware garden wedding told a piece of their story, from family traditions to thoughtful nods to their first date.

Some weddings are remembered for a single unforgettable moment. Gabriella and Matthew’s celebration was a collection of them.

Personal touches appeared throughout the day, beginning with cocktail hour appetizers inspired by their first date and continuing through a wedding toast featuring homemade wine crafted by Gabriella’s family. When rain changed the plan just days before the wedding, their vendor team adapted quickly, allowing the celebration to continue with little more than a change in scenery.

Gardens-Inspired Ceremony Design

The bridal party wore hunter green attire that echoed the lush gardens surrounding the ceremony. Gabriella and Matthew exchanged vows beneath a chandelier and twinkle lights, framed by soft white hydrangeas, roses, lisianthus, and layered greenery against a canopy of mature trees.

At the altar, J. Starr’s Designs created depth by arranging florals in a collection of stone-look urns, ceramic vessels, and clean-lined pedestals of varying heights. Elevated arrangements anchored the space while lower groupings spilled outward, creating an elegant, organic composition.

Inside the reception, gathered fabric draped overhead as greenery wound through the chandeliers and lined the window sills. Floral-print linens paired with warm gold accents, elevated centerpieces, and rows of candlelight completed the tablescapes.

Meaningful Wedding Details

Gabriella and Matthew found simple ways to weave their story into the celebration.

On their first date, they shared grilled cheese and tomato soup at a Philadelphia speakeasy. During cocktail hour, guests were greeted with miniature grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup shooters, a nod to where it all began.

Another meaningful detail honored Gabriella’s Italian heritage. Her two uncles crafted a special batch of homemade wine exclusively for the wedding, complete with custom labels created for the occasion. The wine was served during the couple’s toast, continuing a family tradition that has been passed down through generations.

A Private Dinner Together

Many couples don’t realize how little uninterrupted time they have together on their wedding day.

While guests enjoyed cocktail hour, Gabriella and Matthew slipped away to the bridal suite, where the team at Eventfully Yours had transformed the room into a candlelit dinner for two. The surprise gave them the chance to share their first meal as husband and wife before joining the reception.

“It is one of our favorite decisions we made. Taking that moment just the two of us to enjoy our first meal together as husband and wife is one of our favorite memories from the day.”

When the Forecast Changed

Rain on your wedding day may be considered good luck, but it can also create a last-minute scramble if you aren’t prepared for it.

As the forecast shifted just days before the wedding, the planning team quickly adjusted while Coastal Tented Events secured and installed a clear-top tent despite an already sold-out holiday weekend.

“Thanks to Zach and his incredible team, what could have been a weather disaster turned into one of the most beautiful parts of our day. They installed a stunning clear-top tent with twinkling string lights in the pouring rain, creating a gorgeous setting that our guests absolutely loved.”

The venue staff went out of their way to escort guests with umbrellas while the vendor team quietly adapted to the changing weather behind the scenes, allowing guests to enjoy the celebration without ever realizing how much had changed behind the scenes.

By the time portraits began, the soft light after the rain became a beautiful backdrop among the willow trees and gardens.

Wedding Cake & Desserts

Mill Stream Farm BakeStudio paired clean white buttercream with sculpted diagonal texture and abundant floral arrangements that spilled naturally across the three tiers. Displayed atop an ornate antique gold cake stand, the cake became a striking focal point at the reception.

Alongside the cake, guests enjoyed an assortment of sweet treats that quickly disappeared throughout the evening.

“Our wedding desserts were the talk of the evening, and our guests devoured every last bite.”

Wedding Planning Advice

Looking back, Gabriella has one piece of advice for future couples: have a weather plan, even if you hope you’ll never need it.

“You can’t control the weather, so plan for it. We scrambled at the last minute to secure a tent for rain, and we both wish we would have planned for all weather from the start just to be safe.”

Despite the last-minute changes, the couple says the day turned out even more beautifully than they imagined, crediting the entire vendor team for helping them navigate the unexpected.
