Isobel & Joshua’s Waterfront Wedding at Kent Island Resort

In the middle of Isobel and Joshua’s ceremony, a tiny interruption became one of the most meaningful moments. A firefly landed on Joshua’s sleeve.
“We took it as a sign from his mom that she was with us in that moment,” Isobel said.
The ceremony was Isobel and Joshua’s favorite part of their wedding. A close friend officiated, Joshua’s uncle read from Isobel’s favorite book, and his sister sang and played guitar. They exchanged vows they had written themselves, balancing funny and heartfelt in a way Isobel says felt perfectly like them.
Breaking the Glass, Then Breaking Into the Hora
Isobel and Joshua incorporated a few Jewish traditions into their wedding. Joshua broke a glass at the end of the ceremony, and they opened the dance floor with the hora at the reception.
“The hora was a ton of fun and was a great way to get everyone on the dance floor!” Isobel said.
We agree. Starting the reception with a dance that quite literally pulls people into the celebration is hard to beat.

Soft Blues, Lavender & Garden Florals
Color came through in layers of pale blue, lavender, blush, white and green.
The bridesmaids wore a mix of solid dresses and floral prints and carried single tulips beneath white parasols. Isobel carried a loose garden-style bouquet of white and pale blue blooms.

At the reception, blue-and-white floral napkins were paired with pale blue taper candles, bud vases and low arrangements of blush, lavender, blue and white flowers. Greenery and pastel blooms also climbed the ceremony structure in an asymmetrical installation beneath the trees.

Make a Big Deal of What Matters
Wedding planning comes with an extraordinary number of decisions, but Isobel doesn’t think they all deserve the same amount of energy.
“There are a lot of big decisions to make when planning a wedding. Some of them will be really meaningful and others won’t feel that important to you and that’s okay! Prioritize the moments that you care about.”
For Isobel and Joshua, that also meant skipping traditions that weren’t important to them.
“If something doesn’t resonate, there’s no need to make it a big deal, just because a checklist said that you should.”
They didn’t want to gather everyone around for a ceremonial cake cutting, so they didn’t. A staged grand exit wasn’t important to them either, so they skipped that, too.
Sometimes personalizing a wedding isn’t about adding another detail. It’s deciding which ones you don’t need in the first place.
